Advertisement for the post of Executive Director of FSS


The Forum for Social Studies (FSS), an independent policy research institution, wishes to invite applications from qualified candidates for the post of Executive Director.

 The Forum for Social Studies (FSS) is a non-government, non-profit institution engaged in conducting and sponsoring policy-oriented research and promoting informed public debate on a wide range of development issues. It was established in 1998 by a group of academics and CSO activists whose aim was to help deepen and broaden a democratic tradition of public debates. Its work is guided by the conviction that enhancing the public-decision-makers’ interface on key social and economic issues can promote a transparent, participatory and all-inclusive policy-making and implementation process.


1.      Close familiarity with the work, mission and objectives of FSS through active participation in its programs and/or familiarity with other civil society organizations with similar mission as that of FSS;

2.      Recognized track record in research and publication. He/She should have a reasonable list of works in the form of books, monographs, articles, or papers;

3.      Adequate knowledge of the legal landscape of civil society in the country, and a strong commitment to civil society as well as active concern for the country’s development.

4.       Ability to initiate programs which have wide appeal, are innovative, and are capable of promoting FSS’ reputation;

5.      Proven experience in directing and managing research in an academic and/or think tank environment;

6.      Must be a team leader with an ability to motivate people who work with or under him/her;

7.      Proven track record in fund raising in line with FSS’ mission;

8.      Strong verbal and written communication skills;

9.      Capacity for strategic thinking and ability to see the bigger picture and address crucial issues;

10.  Wide recognition among the research and civil society communities and a good reputation among governmental and donor agencies;

Educational level:

PhD in the Social Sciences or related disciplines, and at least 10 years of relevant experience.

 Salary: as per the FSS scale
